Default Reeves Motorsports - HyperTune?

This caught me by surprise. I contacted Reeves Audi in Tampa about an APR Stage 1 tune on my A8 and got a quick response which included their own option of a "HyperTune" - Reees Motorsports own software update. At $800 and a claimed 125HP gain it is both cheaper and slightly more power than the APR tune. Reeves is very well respected in the Motorsports field and I have asked for Dyno information as well as details on what they "tweak" and will report back. The only thing that makes me nervous is a lack of info on the Interweb about this tune. APR is well known and well documented. Anybody out there know anything more about this?

So - they got back to me. No dyno data on the A8, they do remove speed limiter and do not modify transmission shift points. At this point, I would rather go with APR as they have a reputation gained over a long period of time in this area and for the extra $200 its not worth the risk of an unknown tune with unknown reliability despite Reeves Motorsports good name. I have also ordered an OBD reader to interface with my Torque Pro app (sadly my OBDEleven doesnt do this) and will report back before and after the tune

Love MBR, great dept and staff. But my gut feeling says stick with APR. I figure if APR is not pumping out tunes/numbers that high it’s for a tested reason.

Got the same response from Reeves on my 2017 911, and I'm thinking the same thing about staying with APR. How has the APR tune been?

Ask them if they offer a powertrain warranty, like APR does

APR all the way. The difference in performance is night and day. 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. I just wish there was a TCU upgrade for the 8 speed ZF to get full advantage of it. Maybe soon....

Never, ever, ever bank on an APR warranty. I’ve replaced several APR tuned engines with ‘warranties’ and the cost came out of the owner’s pocket.

APR tunes absolutely leave power on the table, they’re a strong tune. But they play it safer. 4.0T turbine shaft play is a fact of life from what I’ve seen and I personally wouldn’t boost them too much unless you’re headed down the stage 3 road in the future. Compound this several fold if you have old version oil screens that have never been replaced.

Also there is transmission mapping software available. Talk to your tuner and they can get you going.

I’d spend the money on a driveshaft mount and rear diff mounts first though. Especially the driveshaft.

I'm glad you got my point Many tuners can mess with the settings, but APR is the only one who even pretends to stand behind their work.
