I own a 2008 Audi A8L and I always thought that the trunk (15 cu. ft.) was small for a full size car. I test drove a 2011 A8 today only to learn that the trunks on this model is even smaller (13.2 cu. ft.) than the previous year's model. Moreover, the Mercedes S550 4Matic trunk has a capacity of 16.4 cu. ft. and the BMW 7 series trunk has a capacity of 14.0 cubic feet.
The 2011 Audi A8 and A8L are both longer than previous model years. What portion of the car benefited from the increase in length as compared to prior year models of the A8?

I have spoken at length with sales/technical people about this with all of them scratching their heads when the published figures for the A8 say that the boot size is between the 7 series and the S Class. The cubby holes in the sides are huge, but you can't exactly stuff the weekly shopping in there or a suitcase.
I know that all the stuff from the sides (mostly electrical stuff) has been moved to the back of the rear seats. This makes a technicians life a lot easier.
The front and rear seats are also a lot "thicker", to handle all the new electical and mechanical parts of the more complex seats.
My friend has a D2 and that seems to have an even bigger boot than the D3's. Personally, I agree with you. The D4 boot size isn't quite enough for the car.
