While in the dealership, I was reading Audi Magazine issue '01, 2011 which had an in-depth article on the A8 ventilated/massaging seat. In it, it describes the ventilated aspect and interestingly, the fan draws air through the upholstery, not blowing outward. Questions have arisen on this and the A6 and A7 forums as to whether the ventilated system uses ambient or airconditioned air and it appears neither is the case. To quote " Two radial fans integrated in the seat base and backrest suck air down through the upholstery and help remove moisture from the seat surface, for a pleasant, dry seating climate on hot days". This may explain why it doesn't seem to have a lot of air motion outward even on the maximum setting.
