Default What is the real reason for 130MPH speed limiter?

I know that the official line is that tires are only H-rated and therefore the top speed is limited to 130MPH. However, it can't cost Audi that much to upgrade to V or W rated tires. Contipro even offers a higher speed rated tires in the same size for Mercedes OEM application. So what is the real reason for speed limiting many Audi models in the US at 130MPH? I know I'll never go that fast on public roads, but it seems to be an odd decision on Audi's part compared to their competition.

As with most things in life, this is surely based on advise from their Legal folks. Even in Germany, most cars are limited to 155mph, though higher-end cars have an option that will raise that limit. That, however, is a conscious customer choice that the manufacturer can point to should there be an issue, as opposed to selling ALL cars with higher limits. In Audi's case, I'm not aware of the ability to have the factory increase that limit (Benz & BMW do it, Porsche doesn't seem to care). But if I were to guess, I'd say it's based upon Legal concerns, not performance ability.

You pay for speed. My S4 has no limiter since it was tuned my Stasis. I have yet to test it though there are some you tube videos.
