However, in any event some discrepancy is normal. There already is some oil in the vanes of the engine bay, etc. That said, I personally wouldn't do an oil change that way...
Thanks. I agree with you about the manual. How can you explain that dealership does it using suction ?
I do suction every 5-6K miles and then regular way the next change. I think it won't hurt the engine.

Dealers do not use suction because they aren't allowed to (4.0L). It doesn't specify on the EA839 (3.0L) whether or not the suction method is allowed. During the height of COVID, I had the dealer suction out the oil so I didn't have to get out of the car. The method used was the same as the way I do it at home -oil extractor, etc.

Hi Angry. Now I'm totally confused. I use oil extractor as well and I call it suction method. Am I wrong in my terminology ? So what is the suction method ?

Oil extractor is the suction method as the oil extractor sucks out oil. I presume you're sucking out the used oil through the dipstick? If so, we're talking about the same thing

Default 0W40 511 oil for 2021 S8 ok?

Gentlemen - On my 2021 S8, I had my 20K service done at a dealership on 5/3/2023 at 16,183 miles. On 11/5/2023 (just about 6 months / 5K miles later) at 21,400 miles, I got the "Add Max of 2qt oil, you can continue to drive" message with the MMI showing close to minimum oil level.

I brought the car in for a top-up today 11/7/2023, and the dealer added 1.5 quarts of 0W-40 (VW 511.00) oil. (Part GE550401QDSP) Attached is a picture I took at the dealer. The dealer gentleman assured me, "we use the 511 for all new Audi V8 engines." MMI showed full, and all good, I thought.

Dealer used 511 for 2021 S8

Then, out of curiosity I checked the Audi engine oil guide literature, and it seems the official Audi guideline is to use 0W-30 (504.00 / 507.00) for 2021 S8. Somewhat worried, I found my 20K service invoice, and it seems they had used the same GE550401QDSP 511 oil at that point, too.

Here are my questions for D5 owners:

1. Is it ok to use the "new" 511 oil for D5 S8?
2. At my 10K service (I cannot find the invoice to confirm the oil used, but I had it done at a different Audi dealer), I don't know exactly which oil was used. But between 0 miles and 10K miles, and between 10K and 20K miles, I never had the "oil low, add oil" message pop up. Could this mean that the new 511 oil burns up more than whatever was in the engine from factory and at 10K?

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experience.

That's strange. Audi says the oil should be 504/507. I would ask the dealer to show me the proof of factory approval for 511 oil. I never go to a dealer to change oil. I buy Mobil 1 ESP for $7.80 per quart (10 quarts) and change oil myself.
My car does use oil in a city driving (NYC). I add about 1,5 quarts per 5000 miles. I have not noticed any oil usage on long distance highway trips.

Here is the info I found for 511 oil : https://www.blauparts.com/blog/audi-...cs-german.html

According to this data it should be good for 2020 and up 8 cyl engines.

Thank you, aeg. I also found the following, fwiw: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/th....347092/page-3
Hopefully the dealer knows what they are doing. I'll ask about it and share what I find out.

Both are ACEA C3-type and have roughly equivalent performance demands, noting that the xW-40 grades have to meet the same fuel economy limits as the xW-30 ones. 511 00 has a slightly higher TBN requirement."

Norman Audi,

Can you tell me how the oil can have 2 viscosities? 0W-40 and 5W-40 The sticker on my car (2023 S8) shows 0W-40...

Seems to me like Mobil 1 0W-40 should be fine.

And I think its crazy the dealer doesn't do things correctly. My experience with my Ford dealer mechanic is he knows pretty much everything. Access to him is priceless....

Regarding oil changes and getting the filter off:

From what I can tell, this is the oil filter on the 4.0 TSFI engine in the 2023 S8. If anyone has changed one of these, do you have to remove the two hard piped vacuum lines that are blocking the removal of the filter? Or can they
be moved out of the way to get the filter housing off?

And when you take the housing off, does oil go all over the place? Anyone with any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

This is the picture from my 2021 4.0. Yes, it is different, but I don't believe that these lines can not be moved out for the filter replacement.
