$700 for an Upper Oil Pan leak?

Folks,
I took my car in for an oil change. Dealer told me that my "upper oil pan gasket" was leaking. Estimate is a cool seven hundred bucks!
Lately, after the timing belt change, I have been seeing a bit of oil on top of my black engine cover.
Mighty grateful for any advise on this!
Thanks
Manu

I've r&r'd my upper oil pan on the V6 engine and it's a fairly long messy job:
remove lower engine cover.
drain oil.
remove filter.
remove lower oil pan.
remove accessory belt.
remove alternator.
remove starter motor (optional).
remove front engine snub mount.
remove oil cooler (coolant drain optional).
disconnect oil pressure sensor wiring.
lower front subframe.
detach upper pan from oil pump, bell housing, block and starter motor fixing bolt.
All depends how bad the leak is and the urgency to repair it. It's nearly a whole day's work if you know what your doing, dealer or otherwise.
I find that having the upper oil pan gasket leak is quite rare more usually the valley pan gasket or head gaskets/valve cover gaskets.

unless it will cause major problems later. I do check oil level at every gas fillup.
Is this likely to cause other things to fail (i.e. timing belt, etc).
Thanks
