097 Auto Trans Flare on Shifting

Anyone out there ever have problems with the FWD 097 trans letting the revs flare on the 2-3 upshift? I've changed the filter and fluid twice and the trans controller once, but nothing seems to have an effect. It has Valvoline ATF, (proper SAE classification for the car) and it's done it since I bought the car with 112k on it. Now has 132k, and doesn't seem to get any worse or better. You can get it to shift relatively easily by getting out of the throttle when you feel the car's getting ready to transition between 2nd and 3rd. It's more annoying than anything else and I didn't know if I've overlooked something simple.

Sounds like it could be a bad solenoid in the valve body. You should try giving the valve body a good cleaning. If the solenoids are sticking it could cause shifting problems. Since it sounds like you've tried everything else, give that a shot. Good luck.

I have the same exact problem. Please keep me posted if you find the solution. From my research it looks like there is a slip between 2nd and 3rd and only rebuilding the transmission can help. It would be best to take it to a ZF authorized shop (I don't have one around) if you want the right answer. Check the ZF site to see if you have one in your area that would do a diag on your tranny.
On the positive side I have been driving it like that for the last 2 years and it hasn't gotten worse. I've even adjusted my driving style to where I don't even notice it.
