100s Relationship Problems
Hi, I would appreciate your help with this car that I'm pretty much in love with...
I just bought a '93 100s and it ran great for the first week, but I'm starting to see two problems that may be related: if I drive on the highway for about 10 minutes, check engine light turns on. This doesn't happen if I'm in regular city traffic, so I assume it has something to do with the engine heating up. The second thing is that there is a shock when gears are shifting, I think it's mostly between 2nd and 3rd. I've been trying to guess when to take the foot off the acceleration pedal so that it would shift smoothly, but it's not that predictible. If I'm about 1900 rpm and barely accelerate, it will go up to 3000 rpm (once it got to about 3500) than shift gears, with a pretty noticeable shock. And although the engine doesn't shake, there is a slight shaking felt in the whole car when standing still. Are these things related?
I was looking through forums and thought maybe the oxygen sensors would have something to do with this (these). Any advice or info will be appreciated. I am hoping it's not the transmission. Maybe I'm just in denial... Help?

Re: 100s Relationship Problems
I had what i thought was a tranny shifting issue. Changed the fuel filter and spark plugs/wires and it runs like new. Do all the regular maintenence items first, including O2 sensors. Once all that is done, and if you still have a check engine light, try cleaning the EGR path as described on my website. peace
