I have a 1993 Audi 100 with the audi gamma radio that doesn't work. I want to get a new RADIO and CD player but the guy at the audio place said i'd have to get new rear speakers and have them rewired??? Is there any way i can just get a cd radio and just put it in and it'll work or is rewiring the rear speakers the only choice?

I just replaced all of the speakers/radio in my 1990 Audi 100. The speakers ohm rating is not compatible with the radios that are sold in the U.S.. So your forced to replaced everything.

The speakers are also amplified and if you hook up the speaker connections from the new head unit, it will fry the amp. Best is to just rewire everything.

I put in a Blaupunkt Sydney HU and the A08 cd changer last year with no problems other than some minor mods to the harness. For more info check out http://dev.12v.org/tuning.php?include=stereo

it *WILL* work with an after market radio and every thing else stock, but it won't sound nearly as good as new wiring. I installed a sony cd unit in my 100 and had to adjust the fader way to the front to compensate for the rear amps. There was limited volume and some specific cds made weird crackling noises. I wasn't happy with it untill i installed all new wiring and new speakers, BUT just a new head unit will get you by for a while
