Hi,
My '94 100S started have a problem with stalling while driving. It started as an intermitent problem but the more it happened the less it restarted. It stalled about 3 different times (each time it ran for less time)and now it won't start but still cranks over. I have replaced the fuel flter with no better luck. I'm ondering if it could be a fuel pump that died a slow death.
thanks in advance!

If you turn the key to the position where you have power but not all the way on you can here if the fuel pump is working or not from inside the car (you can also repeat it). I found that Audi's will give you issues with stalling when the engine is losing its compression. This is usually caused when a hose is cracking or something like that. I am not familiar with the V6 but I know the 5 will give you similar issue when air hoses are cracking.

Thanks! Is there a way to rule out the relay? Do you know if fuel pumps can progressively go bad too? This one seemed to die after the 4th attempt to drive/start. Again the engine run-time interval decreased ovver the last 4 consecutive start-ups.
thanks again.
thanks again.

Not sure about the relay, but if you have many miles on your car, I bet you will join the club on many of us with 92-94 V6s who have changed the pump.

the car. The buzzing is constant and can be heard while the car is running. Usually, the pump will last quite a bit longer from when you first hear the buzzing (think 1+ years).
The relay usually works or it doesn't. To test whether the fuel pump is running turn the key to "run" (don't start it), and listen. You're listening for the pump running. Put your hand on the door trigger so the noise doesn't come on. Also, buckle your seat belt without you in it. You can do it a few times to make sure you hear it.
When it does run, how does it idle? If it's rough, suspect an air/vac leak.
Remember, for a car to run, it needs fuel/air, spark, and compression.

So, how hard and what is involved in installing a new fuel pump? Also, is there a way to rule out the relay? I understand the fuel pump is inside the tank on the bottom.....how does it come out?
