Default 87 octane gas pinging.

I caved today and put 87 in my car but with a bottle of octane booster. I havent heard any pinging yet but also don't know how loud or when it should happen if it would ever happen. So just was wondering on when it should if it does.

Default It's only $3 more to fill my whole tank with 92

How much was the bottle of octane booster?

Default Your engine is equipped with (2) knock sensors that retard the timimg to prevent...

"pinging" or knocking. However, there is a limit to how much they will retard the timing. Once it reaches that limit, you'll hear pinging. Using regular gas will also lower your MPG, so you'll actually use more gas, and lower your engine output. In the end, you'll probably not save any $$s using the cheaper gas, and could actually cause some engine damage if it knocks.

Default Look in the gas cap door... Min octane rating is 87. I'm not flaming those of you who put in 93

But it is not a Ferrari. This could be debated forever... But IMHO unless you have a high performance car. The results you see out of higher octane is more of a placebo effect. And before the flames come, I have owned 9 audis. And always put in 87 (even when it was less than a buck) What I laugh @ is ppl who put in 93 all the time and still feel the need to run seafoam or techron through their tank. (But always seem to have sludge issues) Bottom line is their is a reason race cars use a higher octane. None the less IMHO it is not worth it to put in in a C4. No real benefits. I get 24-26 PG on highway using 87. So prove me wrong

Default Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.. How many MPG do you get by paying $3.50 gallon????.

I have never had any fuel problems using 87. Can you honestly justify paying for 93???You talk smack about me but post no facts to back up your point. I'll tell you like this with regard to gas... Is it really worth for me to pay for full coverage on a car I paid $1200 for??? You probably would. Then in about 4 years you would have paid the same price for the car. Don't talk SH^t back it up with facts and convince me...I said politely, I wasn't ragging on anyone who felt they bettered from 93. Only, that I didn't see the benefits. So in closing I politely disagree with you and would "believe one thing that falls off of your face" And yes that would be my NUTS!!!!!
Good Day Sir

Default You are wasting your money on the octane booster.

Just run the car on Super and be done with it.
