Default '95 A6 5-Speed - will a '95 90 5-speed tranny fit?

Hi, my name is Ed and haven't posted in a long time. My car is making a really bad tranny noise and was told it needed to be rebuilt or a used tranny. Can any one tell me if this will fit?
While in the shop my mechanic was kind enough to look it all over and give me a loooong list of bad things. Kind of bummed about that.<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=270100891714&amp;f romMakeTrack=true">Audi 90 5-Speed on Ebay</a></li></ul>

Default Per my ETKA, both manual trannies for the '95 90 and '95 A6 have the same P/Ns...

But there are several variations of the 5-speed tranny, so you should check if the eBay tranny has the same P/N has your A6 tranny.

Default Be sure to compare the final drive ratios... Bentleys for each car should have this info, based on..

...the code on top of the bellhousing. The ebay trans looks like a code CBR, which I believe is a 4.11:1 final drive box. Your A6 is either 3.89:1 or 4.11:1, depending upon the code. In any case, they're both Audi 01A boxes, and are physically interchangable. But if it has the wrond final drive ratio for the front diff, it will melt your center diff in short order.

Default Re: How many miles on the A6 tranny?

It only has 114k. A real bummer! I just put on new tires and it runs and drives really nice now. If only I couldn't hear the groaning of the tranny...But it has a host of other issues, most of which can be taken care of using the FAQ section of the forum.
Thanks for the input!

Default Only 114k, that is a shame...

My '95 A6 5spd had nearly 185k on her when I had to let her go last June. Interestingly enough I too haven't posted here in quite some time, but swing by to lurk every once in a while.

The 5spds (in the A6) were so rare that it's sad to hear about one dying (and again, 114k seems real low to be gone, but hey...). Mine was original trans. and original clutch (I believe). I did have a massive failure of the hydraulics in the clutch system (which led to her leaving) but that transmission is sweet. Good luck and glad to hear that one is still on the road.

Default I know, I was under the impression the 5 speed transmissions were bulltet proof.

I've got 191000 on my auto!
