Default 97 A6Q has "OIL" in trip meter display?

Anyone have a clue what this is? Does the OIL display warning come on somewhere else for this car? Asking for a friend... Please e-mail to audimoose@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Default That's just an automatic display... goes off every 7500 miles telling you to...

Take the car to a dealer and have the oil changed. My service lights have been on since I got my A6 (over a year) ... doesn't bother me really, since it has nothing to do with any diagnostic system. Just a mileage-based alarm.

Default All I ever notice is the "L1". Maybe I need to pay more attention. You will see an oil can in the ..

orangish flourescent display if you have an oil pressure problem.

Default Or a picky sensor... there's In. 1 and In. 2 for the trip display, that I have seen. Guess those...

Override the "oil" service reminders.

is there anyway to reset them without going to the dealer?

I just had the same thing happen on my car 95 A6 Quattro. Flashing OIL in the trip odo. Purchased the car in Jan 01.
So is it true then that Audi in their infinite wisdom is forcing us to either spend $200 for a VAG tool or take the car to our friendly dealer for a reset??? Seems like there should be some way to do a manual reset???
