My '94 100S ac compressor has been making a ticking noise for quite a while and now it sounds more like it is knocking. I know the inevitable is to buy another compressor, but has anyone ran into this problem before? Just curious as to what may cause it to make such a noise.

I do have a '92 100S that I am parting out....is the compressor the same? Also, would any AC shop be able to test the other compressor on the bench?

As long as both compressors use R12 refrigerant, they are the same, P/N 4A0 250 805 D..
