Default typing in all caps will not make any difference. I have used K&N and did not like it.

I did not see any improovements. On the other side it poluted MAF sensor and I have seen OBD errors. I have put back the OEM filter and the error did not reapear. Also check the tech section - there several articles on this meter.

So why use a more expensive K&N filter over a std filter??

I got a good price and wanted to give it a try. I'm sure there are some benefits, for the engine.

Default I have a K&N filter and no dramatic improvement but...

It is cheaper to run a K&N so you are not spending $10-15 every time for a new one - just wash out and put back. It will last alot longer than you think. I have had no issues in mine at all. maybe a little more intake noise but other than that I bought for the convience.
