Default Any advice in replacing a CV joint?

my mechanic told me that it was going to cost about $190 for just the part, he was thinking that replacing the axle would help too, and be easier, he said that it would be a couple hour job and the end price would be around $250-300, i thought that this sounded good, but i was just looking for some advice, i also looked around to other shops and they were telling me about 200 for the part,
thanks

Default If the joint has failed then I would just ask for a new ...

joint and boot to be fitted. There is no point in replacimng the whole driveshaft.

If the joint itself is still OK, just get a new boot fitted. Do not let them tell you it is difficult, I have done many at home and now it takes about 55 mins all in. It is easier to remove the driveshaft to do it definetely.
