Any Way to Check Tranny Fluid?
I just started seeing transmission fluid leaking out of the back of the transmission, or quattro device in my '97 A6q Avant....what is it that is located right where the front universal joint meets? Not sure if I have a transmission leak, or a quattro differential leak...
Also is there any way to check the tranny fluid? I know i'm getting low because it's been leaking for a week but of course there's absolutely no mention of checking or adding tranny fluid in the owners manual.
Kurt (worried about my first potential expensive repair on the Audi...)

The Quattro rear seal is prone to leaking for the C4 (maybe the newer C5 also). To check the...
transmission fluid in your '97, you have to remove the filler plug on the side of the transmission. While running in "P" w/ A/C off and the fluid temperature @ 35 - 40 degrees C, the correct fluid level is when it just starts to run out of the filler hole. Of coarse, you have to get underneath the car to check, so the car must be level on four jack stands (or platform) to do this check.
