Anyone know if the "hard" rear brake lines (metal tubing) are tough to change? I have a leaking one.

Did you kink it?
If you buy a line out of a salvage yard then an open end wrench is all you should need. I wouldn't want to see what audi would charge. The other alternative is to buy a line @ YFAPS and bend it yourself (If you have a tube bender) you could also splce it. if you have the room. Take a pic of your problem. Or are you just looking to increase the i.d. of the line?

Nah, put in new brakes and when I tried to take off the old soft line at the fitting...
to replace it the connection was frozen shut. The connection to the metal line wouldn't move, the whole line started twisting and the nut got a bit gobbered up. Now it has a slow drip, not good.

Just looked at the Avant.
There is a "T" junction in the rear brake lines on the passenger rear subframe.
A short little section of metal brake line goes from there to the feed the left caliper, and a longer section of line goes from there, across the rear subframe and over to feed the right rear caliper.
So, plenty of room to work, everything's accessable and shouldn't take more than 30min to make a new line for the right and less time for the short one on the left.
No big deal!
