I'm looking at a 100 (1992 or 1993) and want to know how quiet the car is. Espeically on the highway. Compared to a Passat B5 wagon - which is an alternate choice for me.

My '97 is reasonably quiet, they are stiff chassis cars so a few creaks, etc., but solid.

loudest thing in my car is the hatch cover/sunshade rattling around. i really need to get around to securing it better.

With the hatch trim removed and over 140K it is quiet.

A few squeaks and rattles from the plastic trim around the interior. On a smooth highway, quiet up to 100 mph. Then tire balance comes into play.

Good idea, I need to find some foam to insulate the latch better.

What rpms are you turning at 100 mph? I wish we had an overdrive!

Awesome road car. Very solid ride. I've taken the back hatch (tailgate) trim completely off and covered all the "contact" areas with the fuzzy side of self adheasive velcro. That completely silenced the tailgate. Prior to this, it chattered, squeaked and chirped so bad you couldn't stand to drive the car.

If you get it, spend up and buy some nice quiet tires; Bridgestone Turanza's, Yokohama Avid T4's, Goodyear Assurance (which is what's on ours, but I've got Turanza's on the 4000S and Avid's on the Rabbit truck)

For the price, you're getting a heck of a fine car!

I used the fuzzy half of self adheasive velcro. Rear hatch/tailgate is not dead quiet.

The forth gear in the 4-speed auto tranny used in the C4 is overdrive. The third gear ratio is 1.0.
