My wife was driving from Pennslyvania to New York in our 1992 Audi 100CS front wheeled drive automatic, stopped at the mall noted clunk clunk clunk and engine stalling while stopping at light. She put it in park restarted and drove off. When she got back on I80 noticed the car would not change gears, in default second gear, all display lights on dash for drive position lighted. Car towed home, fuse 14 and 15 burned when replaced light on dash not on at all any more no matter what position you place the transmission in, does go intor reverse neurtral park, drive(in second only) 2 and 1 (in second only). Local mechanic in lewisburb PA dumbfounded, AAMCO around hear not so good.
Please help with rx and any suggestions where to repair, will tow to another site. Also if transmission how difficult to convert car to manual would prefer manual. Only transmission I found in area 1500 dollar with over 100k on it.
Thanks

Sorry to hear of your auto-trans problems.
It could be any one of many things with these transmissions? However yours sounds to be more "electrical" in nature, vise mechanical?
Electronically controlled 4 speed. Could be the computer, valve body(inside trans)or any one of the sensors, or associated wiring?
Ya might check the electrical connectors which go to the trans, make sure they are all on, and havent gotten water in them.
As for swapping the auto-2-manual, I performed this on my 93 90 V6.
Look here-<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/9080/msgs/20783.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/9080/msgs/20783.phtml</a</li></ul>

I know a guy with a 100 trans for sale, auto... $70 for shipping and $500 for the auto.
Nick.
email me if interested.
He's also got an engine for sale, V6 AAH code with a bunch of other crap for 92+ 100's.
He's a super guy to deal with.

There is probably a metal wire harness clamp which has cut thru the wire insulation, causing the fuses to blow and the tranny to default to the limp home mode (only second gear and full illumination of the tranny gear display. Check the harness where it goes to the transmission housing. There is a strain relief clamp which gives some trouble after many year/miles. You probably don't need a new tranny, just some wire harness repair. Hopefully the fuse protected the TCM (Transmission Control Module) circuits from being damaged by the short circuit.

Get someone with VAG tool to scan the TCM (transmission control module) error code for
you. With all lights on (PRD321) there is
an error code and the transmission is in "limp"
home mode (2nd gear only). This also is confirmed
when the car initially started in "limp home" mode
by locking in 4th gear and stalling the car.
Most likely electrical, and you definitely do
not need a new transmission at this stage of the
diagnosis.

Is your car fixed yet drgabe? Do post here what your garage did to rectify the problem, the parts changed, and the cost.
I've got the same problem.
See thread above entitled "Technical Advice", and please post there also! Thanks.
