Default Audio question...

I posted this question on the Audio Forum a week ago, and got no helpful replies, so I figured I'd try here. The Bose head unit in my '94 100CSq crapped out last week. What are my options for getting a replacement head unit? I've been told that an aftermarket deck will work, but it'll eventually cook the speakers. Has anybody here had any luck using a non-Bose head unit with the Bose speakers? If so, did you need any special wiring adapters? I'm not about to get an OEM Bose head unit, either, since, to the best of my knowledge, they never made an in-dash CD player, and I don't own a single casette. Help! (And don't suggest replacing the speakers, since I'm on a budget...)

Default As far as I know, the Blaupunkt's hook up with little problem.

Blaupunkt CD70 Hamburg list: $399, I found one for $249 including installation. Now all I need is to find a day I can take off to get it installed.

It's just a matter of swapping two wires on the harness, and I should be able to keep the in dash display.

Default Re: Audio question...

I put a Blau Sydney unit in my 92 100 and the only change was only being able to use one of the antenna inputs. The aftermarket Blau's only have one input and I haven't been able to find a Y-adapter for the two diversity antenna leads.

I would also recommend finding the wiring diagram for the connecters to be sure that you don't blow out your speakers.

Default Do a search... I've written in detail about it before, but...

...if you want to do it right and maintain or exceed the current quality, you need to gut the system and replace head unit/speakers/amp/sub. The problem you're referring to re: burning out speakers is that Blose systems run at 1.8 ohms. Everything else in the world is stable to 2 ohms....one of a few different reasons that you need to gut the entire system to do it right..

Default I had the same problem...

My head unit hit the bucket and I was in the same spot you are in (on a budget). All the advice that I got was to gut the whole thing. I saved for 4 months and did just that. I replaced the whole with with alpine for about $550.00 Good luck with whatever you decided to do.
