Default backup lights

Anyone ever had problems with their backup lights working intermittently? I did set the parking brake while having it in reverse. Got out to look and were out then suddenly came on. Is it some sort of switch problem? Thanks, Gary

Probably a "stretched" wire where it flexes going into the trunk!!

Default Try putting the trans into Neutral and hard/fast shift into reverse

A common problem is the Park Neutal Saftey Switch. A way to tell if it is the switch or something else is to confirm whether the right mirror tilts when the right mirror switch is pushed in with the car in reverse.

Mirror tilts and reverse off = something other than Park Neutral Saftey

Mirror doesn't tilt and reverse off = Park Neutral Saftey

Putting the trans into neutral and hard/fast shift into reverse does work to get the backup lights to activate. . Is this part of the park neutral safety switch probelm or something else still?

Default Park Neutral Safety Switch. I looks as if it is built into the transmission as a proximity switch

or something to that affect. I had an intermittent problem with it and continued to do a few fast shifts from N to R and P to R. I appears that everytime my lights work now. Why? Don't know?

Yeah I got the same problem. The dealership says that it may be the "Multifunction" AKA big $$$ switch. They said they need to keep the car for a day or two and run tests @$90/hr to find out for sure. I told them they're smoking crack and left.
