Bay Area: Anyone have Special Tools 3242/3243 to borrow/rent?
hi all
will be doing a timing belt/etc service soon... anyone in the Bay Area have the special tools that I can borrow/rent?
Just helped a friend do a 98 Passat 1.8T timing belt job without special tools, so I'm fine without special tools for the audi, but I just thought I would try to make it easier just in case someone can help out =)
BTW, the Passat was a pain... took a while to get the car into "service position"... whereas our cars are already in service position =)

Service position is...
the Bentley terms it as putting the "lock carrier into service position"... last night, this involved taking off the bumper cover and basically unscrewing things and disconnecting hoses until we could pull the front of the car out about 12 inches or so =) that took us a 2-3 hours because it was our first time and we had to guess and check among other things.
I heard the newer A6s, Passats, A4s, etc all need to be in service position to change timing belts.
BTW, has anyone else on here ever been crazy (stupid) enough to do a timing belt job in the DARK? =D my friend and I worked till about 5AM (outdoors) when we finally got everything back together.

It's where you pull the bumper off, undo the core support bolts on the driver's side, and...........
Swing everything out of the way without having to remove hoses, etc. Or something similar to this.
