Default Brake Light Issue

The 'Brake Light' message showed up on my dash display yesterday. I bought a new light from NAPA and then became cornfused. With my lights on everything looked fine, when pressing the brake the drivers side did not get brighter so I replaced that light (of the 2 rear bulbs I replaced the one toward the center of the car). The new light was immediately really bright as if the brake was depressed even though it wasn't. To add to this, it looks like one of the little brake lights from the rear window is out as well, not sure if this is related or a separate issue. I'm sure there is something else I should check, as of now I either have no brake light on the drivers side or a constant brake light. Appreciate any thoughts.

Default just because they fit doesn't mean they're the right bulb. you might try replacing them

in pairs...but make sure you buy the right bulbs:

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/80568.phtml</a

Default You can forse the bulb in the wrong side.

This will confuse parking and brake lights.
I also noticed, that american bulbs with yellow metal does not work as well as with white metal. They have different resistance to the current or something, but they confuse onboard computer and you can see the "check brake lights" if thought they light up.

Default Take out that new bulb, turn it 180 degrees and put it back in.

Sounds like you put it in clocked wrong. Not that the side pins are staggered in height. Pay attention to that as you install it.

Regarding the bulb in the 3rd brake light, I'd recommend going to Audi for those little peanut bulbs. The ones you'll get from NAPA have the wrong resistance and will trip the brake light warning in the dash.

In fact, you should replace both rear brake light bulbs so that you don't wind up tripping the warning due to one bulb having different resistance.
