Default Brakes wearing unevenly.

So, I recently replaced my pads in the rear (less than 3k ago) and they are pretty much gone now. The front ones are near perfect.

What would cause this? I know the rear pads I bought were cheap (20 bucks), but I expected them to last longer than 3k...

Could something be wrong with the ebrake cable? Or, could the lines be disconnected?

Default could be several things

corroded caliper carrier pins. did you pull them, inspect, lubricate?

maybe a poorly adjust e-brake

I had a problem with one side of my front brakes hanging up after I replaced pads. I attributed it to pushing the old fluid back up the line instead of out the bleeder valve...somehow causing some rust/debris/shizzle to lodge in an orifice in the system somewhere.

Since the rears should only be doing 40% of the work, I'd say you might have dragging brakes.

Default Are the rear wheels warm after driving?...

...They shouldn't be if the brakes are working normally. If they are, the brakes are dragging.

Default This would only explain wear of inner pad but not outer pad

..and would also nto explain even wear left to right, unless both were word. I do agree that the pins should be cleaned and lubricated with each service.

Default Update: Both wheels are EXTREMELY hot, and Brake/Anti-Lock OFF Lights came on yesterday.

I'm pretty sure that the rears are dragging. There are almost no pads left, and I'm pretty sure the right side doesn't have pads at all.

Could the lack of pad cause the BRAKE & ANTI-LOCK OFF warning lights to come on? I'm pretty sure the passenger rear has absolutely zero pad left on it.

Default The ABS sensors in each hub measure the wheel speed relative to the other wheels...

If the brakes are dragging enough to cause a wheel to be 'slow' in relation to the others, the ABS might kick out. For example, when you drive over some sand, a wheel might stop momentarily. Just a possibility. Also, if the ABS wheel sensors get really hot, the ABS module might think they're malfunctioning.

Whatever, you need to figure out why the brakes are dragging and fix them. The most likely culprit is the e-brake cable either seized or adjusted too tight.

Default Mmm...didn't someone suggest the rears were dragging? Oh yeah......me.

Stop driving it before you really damage something, or worse, get in an accident.

Causes for dragging calipers:
1)Brake flex hoses at the back are swollen shut inside. Remove both hoses and try to blow through them with just your mouth. If you can't blow through them, or can barely blow through them, replace all 4 brake flex hoses.

2)Calipers hanging up due to the p.brake levers, or the caliper internals.

You've gotten the brakes so hot now that you really need to just throw the works at it....rotors, semi-metalic PBR pads, flex hoses and probably calipers.
