Default Bypass brake pad warning light.

I have read several posts about jumping the wire to get the brake pad warning light to stay off.We unplugged the sensors.Shouldn't the light stay on if the sensors are unplugged?Do we just need to connect the 2 wires together to get the light to stay off?Pads are like new and I have had this intermittant problem for many years and many miles. Thanks,Ron
