Default C4 A6 Headlight circuit fault

The wifes A6 headlights (low beam) will not energize yet, the driving lights and cluster lights function.

High beams only stay on if the switch is held.

I am told that the low beams are powered direct from the switch? Does this mean there is no relay for the low beams?

I hear that this sort of issue is either the switch located on the colomn or the ignition switch.

Any ideas?

Default Most likely the headlight switch on the steering column...

I've replaced a couple of these with the same symptoms. Here are links to some information

Be sure to read the rest of the posts in the associated threads for more information. Post back if you still have questions.

This is the best price I've found online: <a href="https://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=euftvn55wsauq145gaewtfnz&makeid=8 00002@Audi&modelid=1008863@A6%20QUATTRO%20%20&year =1997&cid=18@Electrical%20%26%20Vacuum&gid=4832@Tu rn%20Signal%20Switch">AutoHausAZ.com</a>

Cheers.

Default Re: C4 A6 Headlight circuit fault

I got lucky on this one, so far, on our '95 A6q avant. Sprayed a bunch of Caig DeoxIT (Caig's contact cleaners and other electronics chemicals are da best!) into the switch area and exercised the switch. Now the high beams work great, all the time. Fixed the cruise control switch the same way a while back. An added bonus, the rear window wiper now works for the first time in years! Of course YMMV (and I did do a PDF print of the step-by-step switch removal for future reference because I know someday it is inevitable).

I have "fixed" a plethora of switches in a whole bunch of Audis (and countless other things) with DeoxIT over the years (decades actually). One of the most essential tools in the box for all my older Audis!
