C4 A6 Steering Rack Issues
Did anyone have issues getting the bolt holes on Driver Side to line up. Rack is in. Pass side bolt is in. Steering gear input shaft is attached "loosly, not bolted" to the U-Joint under dash by firewall. I can not get the rack the last 1/2 - 1/4" rearward to where I can bolt in those two bolts. I can pry it with a pry bar and get it close. It shouldn't be this tight though IMHO. I can not figure out why its binding.
Any thoughts? I did notice that the U-Joint under dash has no additional play "Slide" in it. IE... normally it can move up and down when the Rack is out. Mine doesn't move up and down at all now. With rack installed all the way, is this bottomed out or should it still have some movement in it?

On A6 95-97 the steering rack is mounted via 8mm or 10mm bolts. How to find what bolts are used on .
