Default Can you replace a factory radio with an aftermarket one in an A6?

The radio in my '95 A6 is not working and I was wondering if I could replace it with a Sony Explode radio, but my audi has a Bose system. Does anyone know if this is possible to replace or am I stuck getting a new one from a dealer?

Default Oh god another victim of bose..

Youll either need to replace everything or get the appropriate adaptor to use an aftermarket headunit with the bose amps.

I'm about to embark on the same mission. My radio works fine but I would like a CD player _and_ something with more pre-sets and a better button layout.

It's winter up here in Boston so I will probably wait until spring to update the radio. The Bose speakers sound decent (not great but better than most) so I will keep them. I just want a new receiver with a built in CD player.

I've heard this retrofit could be "challenging" but I have extensive experience with this sort of thing. Once I do it I will post the procedure to this web-site. I simply don't plan on doing this until the temperature warms up.

Easy upgrade, no adapter needed, the stock head unit drives the Bose amp with its line level outs.

How would I run the bose speakers from the aftermarket radio outs?

It didn't take long (2-weeks) but I finally grew tired of the Gamma unit in my A6. I just ordered a Blaupunkt CD receiver a few minutes ago and it should be arriving next week.

This means that I will probably do the install next weekend. I will post here how it went.

I will know for sure after I complete the job but the plan for now is to drive the Bose amps with the receiver pre-amp outputs and any speakers that do not have amps will be driven directly with the amplified outputs.

At least that's the plan for now. We'll see how it all turns out in the end.

Connect the new head-unit line-level outs to the stock Bose amp line level ins.
