Default Neato. So they run power to the doors?

So there are little amps in the doors? Nifty. They run power all the way out to the doors to amps on the back of the speakers? Wow.

I can solder RCA leads to ISO connectors and fake my way thru the Audi wiring harness. What I then could do is mount a seperate amp for the sub, and put a crossover inline with the RCA jacks, so the lows get filtered out before it gets that far, and goes to the sub amp. Then the highs can go to the rear door speaks. Nifty.

Default Your car is a station wagon

because the info I gave you is for a wagon. I discovered the rear amps when my rear speakers crapped out. It turned out that the the little braided wire going from the amps to the speakers had disintegrated. I cut them and soldered them and they work perfect. The amps actually say Nokia on them.

Default Yes, its an Avant. How powerful are the amps? how do you get at them?

I am still sadly lacking a manual, so I don't know how to get to the speakers. It appears the grilles would pop off, but I don't want to break things, especially with no garage and freezing weather (-9C this morning)

I was thinking of getting a single channel amp with a crossover and running the lineouts from my new radio thru it, and then to the (currently amplified) rears, so I can filter out the bass they can't reproduce anyway, and send that to a seperate subwoofer.

Default You have to remove the door panels

there are screws on clamps on the back of the speakers-don't know the amp output.

BE CAREFUL-Audi uses the same color for multiple things. You will have to solder male RCA jacks onto the rear speaker wires in order to connect them to the new radio. The white wire for the antenna booster has to be connected-it also turns on the rear amps. Good luck!
Where do i connect the white wire?

Default Old thread dug up

I realise this is an old thread someone dug up this year, but I was wondering if anyone knew how the wiring for the Bose sub unit works into the scheme?
I plan on trying the below for front and rear speakers to add an aftermarket head unit, but what have you folks done for the subs?
