Crankshaft sprocket turned when using puller to get it off
I was trying to change the TB, and crankshaft moved when I was turning the bolt on the puller. I managed to move the sprocket to the original position (before the accidental turn). Will this affect the timing of the car?
BTW, I rented the tool kit from Blau parts.
Thanks

Don't worry about it.
When it jumps like that it's just the tension on the valve springs forcing the shaft to turn. 20-30 degrees isn't going to cause a problem.
I assume you will be loosening the cam sprocket from the shaft to set cam timing?

Should not be a problem
If you are using the cam positioner tool and the TDC pin in the crankshaft, the cam will hold steady. I'm assuming you removed the cam pos tool to take off the sproket. When you go to put on a new belt, put the sprocket back on loosely and put the tool in place.
using the holes in the cap pos tool, turn the cam until it lines up with the otehr side. When the positioner is clamped down, the only thing that should be loose is the sproket. That's so you can put tension on the belt with the tensioner and let the slack slip between the sproket and cam. Once the belt is tight, tighten the bolt on the cam which will tighten the sproket to the cam. (it's a taper fit)

Re: Do you mean the crankshaft or a camshaft? Did you rent the tool after the crank turned???
Bentley book says "camshaft sprockets" in the install TB section. But says "crankshaft sprocket" in the "Crankshaft oil seals, replacing -- page 13-19". I am confused here.
I used the tool from blauparts when I took out the TB. The sprocket "jumped" when I tried to take the sprocket off using the puller that came with the toolkit.
I pretty new to this thing. How do you get the sprocket back on after changing the seal?
Thanks your help!

The crankshaft is in the center bottom part of the engine, the cam shafts are at the top of
the engine on the left and right hand sides.
The crankshaft is held in place with the locking pin you screwed in after removing the Top Dead Center sensor. The crankshaft should not move. This is the oil seal "most" people change when doing the timing belt. I didn't bother with mine at 60,000 miles.
The camshafts and or sprockets moving is no big deal if you have the other special tool that goes between the two camshafts to align them. You will just need to move the camshafts some to get them into alignment. Your valves will be fine.
You may want to go to 12v.org and look at the pictures and read the timing belt instructions.
