Default Cutting stock springs

What are the disadvantages of cutting the stock springs? I'd like to chop a coil off to lower the fender gap so that it can't fit my entire fist between the fender and the well. Would this cause significant performance issues?

Thanks.

Default Now your dampers will bottom out before the spring will, plus

..if you dont cut them just right, they wont sit correctly int he spring perches. It *might* work out well, btu most times i've seen tsi done, it has not.

Also, be sure you truly know how much to cut, and whether or not the spring has a linear taper, etc. or you'll be disappointed.

Long story short, why dont you get a matched suspension kit with shorter springs, adjustable perches, and dampers made specifically to damp that spring.

Default Spend the money to do it right.

and don't spend the money until the rest of your suspension is sorted out. Struts, mounts, bushings, ect...

Default What exactly does one need to do to prepare for lowering?

I am just curious, should I decide to do it what I should consider replacing. I have already done the front struts. What else might I need?

Default Prepare for? I dont understand

except that lowering wont help if your suspension is shot - e.g. bushings, ball joints, etc.

Ont he other hand, since a properly done job will replace the springs and struts, they cna be as old and ratty as you like.

There may have been some other contributing factors, but I still say don't do it

Default If you want to go cheap and ghetto...

I would "recommend" heating the springs before cutting them. However I agree pay the money to do the job right, it's better than paying for everything else that could go wrong.
