Default DELTA Radio Information & Unlocking Procedure

<b>DELTA HEAD UNIT</b>

The radio goes into SAFE mode to prevent theft. While I think it's a useless feature (who steals car radios anymore, anyway?) that just makes more work for everybody including you, the owner, you will probably have to deal with this, and Audi still has the feature in new cars today.

To unlock your radio, you will need your <b>RADIO CODE</b> ... this is a 4-digit number that is assigned to your radio head unit.

If you don't have this number, your fate is in the hands of your local area Audi dealer. Good luck? (They can look it up based on your radio head unit serial number.)

<b>Delta Head Unit Information</b>

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/153/deltaradio.jpg">

The Delta head unit is found in the follwing Audi models:

<b>1996-1997 Audi A4, A6, Cabriolet
1995.5-1997 Audi S6
1997 Audi A8</b>

The part numbers for the Delta are...

Audi # 4D0 035 192
Audi # 8A0 035 192 (Cabriolet)

<b>Delta Features</b>

Single version, programmable for standard or Bose equalization
Cassette player with auto-reverse
AM/FM tuner, 6 AM presets, 12 FM presets, DX/Local, Seek/Scan
Controls for 6-disc CD changer (CD changer optional)
Random mode for CD
Bass, Treble, Fader
RDS/TP (Radio Data System/Type Search)
Dolby noise reduction
GALA (speed-sensitive volume compensation)
Telephone mode auto volume attenuation
Anti-theft coding
Mode display in instrument cluster (if equipped with auto-check)
Made by Blaupunkt

The Delta head is only compatible with the Audi OEM 6-disc CD changer, part # 8D0 035 111, made by Alpine. The communications interface between the Delta and the CD changer is proprietary. Aftermarket CD changers, including those made by Alpine, cannot be used. The CD magazine, however, is the Alpine 4905, and can be bought from an Alpine car stereo dealer.

The OEM CD changer and mounting bracket is available from the Audi dealer or from several aftermarket parts sources. (The car comes pre-wired for a CD changer.)

<b>SAFE mode unlock procedure for Gamma head unit</b>

1) Park car. (Note: Experienced radio unlockers have been known to perform this task while driving, but it is extremely dangerous and may result in a fatal crash. Not advised.)

2) Turn radio on. SAFE will show in the display. (Note: The car does not have to be on, nor does the key have to be in the ignition or in any position.)

3) Press the hold the <b>FM1/2</b> and <b>DX</b> buttons simultaneously and hold until "1000" shows on the display. Release the buttons. Do NOT press these buttons again, otherwise the radio will consider "1000" to be the code.

4) Enter your radio code. Use the radio station preset buttons (1, 2, 3, 4) to enter the four-digit code number from your radio card. Preset button 1 corresponds to the first digit, Preset button 2 corresponds to the second digit, etc. Each press of the button increments the number by 1. So for example, if your code was 1927 you would press...

- 1 <b>0 times</b>
- 2 <b>9 times</b>
- 3 <b>2 times</b>
- 4 <b>7 times</b>

Which would show <b>1927</b> in the display.

<b>If your radio is still locked</b> then you entered the incorrect code.

When an incorrect code is entered, the word 'SAFE' appears in the display again, first flashing and then continuously. You can repeat the above steps to unlock the radio once more. If an incorrect code is entered again, the radio will be locked for about an hour.

After one hour, you may try again twice before it locks again for an hour.

<b>Other Configurable Options For the Delta</b>

The following is the procedure on how to access some other preferences that you may set in the Audi Delta CC radio.

<b>GALA and Turn-on Volume Settings </b>

Turn off radio. While pressing and holding the TP button, turn on radio. "GALA" will be shown in the display.

To select the speed at which GALA activates, press the tuning up (up-arrow) or tuning down (down-arrow) buttons to the left of the volume control ****. The display shows the following:

__| Highway speed
_|_ City speed
|__ Slow speed

To save the setting, press both the tuning up and tuning down buttons simultaneously. "GALA" disappears.

Turn-on Volume:

Press the TP button briefly, "VOL" appears in the display.

To increase or decrease the turn-on volume, press the tuning up or tuning down buttons.

To save the setting, press both the tuning up and tuning down buttons simultaneously. "VOL" disappears.

To activate GALA, push the treble control **** to let it spring out. Then, pull it out one more detent, and then turn the **** to the right. To deactivate GALA, do the same except turn the **** to the left. Push the **** back in when you're done.

OEM car stereos are generally not stolen today because of this code-lock feature.
