I read that here (May 4, 2004 reply at end)

http://www.12v.org/maintenance/repairs/headgasket.php

That you are supposed to re-tighten a 1/4 turn.

Would this stop a head gasket leak (seepage)?

I found the same advice somewhere but it was for a situation where only one head was removed. I replaced one head so I tightened the other side a little bit, (probably only 1/8th)

It's been back together for almost a year now and no problems.

Default How big of a job was taking off the head?

I'm going to do the valley pan gasket but taking the heads off to replace a leaky (Oil) head gasket seems like a bridge too far ...

Default If your changing the valley pan gasket, you're more than halfway there.

If the head gaskets are leaking, change them. Tightening the bolts will not help.

Default Not if that's all you're doing.

My intake manifold has been off twice in 275k and the heads have never been touched.
