engine, turn on AC to defrost, turn on rear window defrost, start scraping windows (UrS4 is in the garage, this is my 98 C4 A6 Avant).
I start on the driver's door window and work my way around the car. When I return to the driver's door, I notice a melted patch of frost around the key hole (now about 4" in diameter).
Hmmm...okay I have a heated door lock. But why was it activated by the rear window defroster? If I was able to turn on that switch, I was already in the car (either via the key or the remote) and don't really need the heated lock.
Or do I?
BTW, the door mirrors don't seem to be heated. Which makes no sense.

the heating elements in your mirror glass are probably burnt out.

mirrors are supplied through the ignition switch.

the connectors.
When pulling the mirror glass, it helps to remove the black trim at the bottom of the mirror housing.
