1995 A6: for some reason my driver side wiper is suddenly not working hardly at all when I get above 40 mph. Has anyone experienced this and/or been able to fix it?

can you move the wiper arm by hand with gentle pressure?
sometimes you can get by for awhile by tightening the nut holding the arm to the drive post.

However there is a little more "play" in it that the pass side. I'll tighten up everything I can get my hands on and see if it improves, thanks.

while churning thru revising a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan here at work, it's almost certainly something mechinical if one side works and the other side doesn't. The 2 arms are connected by a couple of arms. I'd pull the plenum cover and get a good light and mirror in there and look it over good.
It's strange that it's speed dependent.

Put it under runing water in the kitchen sink and work the hinge back and forth. It'll likely loosen up and then gain it's spring back. I do this every couple years, works very well. Other option is a brand new arm, but this is far cheaper. You can oil the hinge after but be careful not to use something that attracts dirt.

the splines on mine stripped out and got to the point where a tight bolt would not hold it.. i fixed it by putting the wiper in place then drilling and tapping a hole for a small set screw. very simple procedure if you are semi handy

there's a good reason why the splines are aluminum and expendable.
picture what would happen to the much more expensive and hard to replace motor if the splines were steel and us dumb asses ran the wipers while the blades were frozen to the windshield.
