can I do this without it or is it a necessity? I have had my TB off before so I guess my main obstacle is removing the EGR valve. And yes, I do have the procedure printed out.

if you don't mind taking out the whole intake manifold ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
It's not to much more work and it will make the cleaning part easier. You do have to order a couple more gaskets for the intake manifold if you take it off. I don't think you'll be able to remove the EGR valve without the crows foot.
