Default I don't have a diagram, but I've got some photos I could email?

Dark green is source vacuum from next to the Idle Control Valve (right rear corner of intake manifold).

Light green is stored vacuum and goes to the right rear of engine, forward along the right cylinder head and into the plastic vacuum storage ball below the power steering pump.

Brown (coming off the elbow on the top side of the tan EGR solenoid) feeds suction to the EGR valve.

Black (coming off the rear of the EGR solenoid) goes to the fitting in the lower left corner of the plastic air intake plenum. (I don't know what this does)

Blue (coming off the bottom of the manifold switching valve below and behind the EGR solenoid) goes back behind the engine and then forward to the left upper corner about the EGR valve to the black acuator for the variable venturi actuation inside the intake manifold.

If someone sees an error here, PLEASE, let me know!

Default Re: ^Update. Fixed and yes, it was a failed EGR solenoid

Cleared the EGR insufficient flow DTC, installed the new EGR solenoid, ran through the "output test mode" with VAG-com and then went for a drive.

Maintained the 43-62mph, 4th gear, light steady throttle, engine at operating temp, test criteria and the CEL stayed off.

Yesterday, I could drive the car within the test criteria and the CEL would come on within about 2 minutes.

Thanks to everyone for your help on this. I'm going to write up a technical how-to for the FAQ's.

Default Do I remember right that before buying the new solenoid you tried a second used one?

I.e. you had two bad solenoids?

Default

You are correct sir. The used one produced a CEL just as fast as the one in my car.
