I had checked out the following sites.
http://www.warrantybynet.com/
http://www.extendedautowarrantycorp.com/
http://www.1sourceautowarranty.com/
I think the warrantybynet will be my choice. They quote $1996/(2years or 30K miles) for my 96 A6 with 90K on it. It includes the internals of the engine, transmission, suspension and electrical equipment.
I worry about the "failed because of the failed lubricated part". Does it mean, that they will not fix my engine, if it will be broken because of the timing belt?
What should I ask them?

They will refund part of it at the end if you don't make any claims. I know several companies do that.
Almost all warranties have the "failure due to internal lubricated part" statement, but they also cover the timing belt. Ask them if the timing belt breaks, does the warranty cover everything that needs fixing as a result of the breakdown, or just the belt.

A common problem in A6's I guess. Just be carefull. Remember a Rebuilt Tranny (with 2 year guarantee) is $2200.00. A used low mileage motor is $2000.
You would be better off with the money in the bank earning interest. Just my opinion.

You will find most or all are not. This is because CA requires the companies to be underwitten by an Insurance Company. This assures you will be paid!
None of the companies listed above can sell in California. If you find one that is, I'd really consider that one.
