Default fluid under clutch pedal

yesterday i noticed a small pool of fluid on the rubber mat under my clutch pedal. i dabbed it with my finger and it looked like fresh motor oil. cleaned it up and today there's another puddle of the same stuff. could the clutch master cylinder be leaking into the car? the clutch doesn't feel any different between any gears. nice firm pressure and full return. it's dark out and i do my repairs on the lawn, so i haven't been able to crawl around looking for the source, but wondered if this was something anyone could shed some light on. not knowing will keep me from sleeping tonight. i have a 92 100cs with 197K miles and the clutch has never been replaced. it feels fine, but that fluid has me nervous. any thoughts?
thanks.

Default that is not motor oil, but brake fluid from the clutch master cylinder

The clutch master cylinder is fed from the brake master cylinder. The clutch master cylinder is located just above the clutch pedal.

Check your brake master cylinder under the hood and see if you are low on fluid.

If you do replace the clutch master cylinder you should also replace the clutch slave at the same time.

Default thanks so much. makes sense to me. just out of curiosity. . .

is this a situation that i can watch the fluid and top it off for a week or so while i wait for the parts to arrive, or should i plan on walking to work for a few days?
thanks again.

Default You should be fine to use it depending on how fast it's loosing fluid...

...when you do the job try not to let the fluid level in the brake mater cylinder reservoir drop so air will be drawn in because it can get trapped in the abs unit and is a right royal pain in the *** to get out without the Audi special equipment.. sealing the top of the res with cling film or similar will help slow the fluid loss while changing out the cylinder.

If you intend to repair it with new seals, some thing to block off the supply pipe while you fix it would be prudent

Default Well brake fluid could eat the paint off your car.

Can't be good for your shoes or worst yet your feet if you should get any brake fluid on them.

If you are close to your work place that you can walk, then do it. The exercise will be good for you.
