A few weeks ago, my turn signal went crazy. On left turns, it works as always. On right turns, it now blinks really rapidly, like it drank several cups of espresso or something.

Anyone know what this is all about? Should I just ignore it, or is this a first sign of some bigger problem?

You probably have a burned out bulb on the fast side.

Just checked... Bulbs are fine. Any other ideas???

I don't quite understand how these bulbs work... I know they have extra contact to sense when burned out... Can they "short" out on this extra circuit and still work?

This is weird... Trying to understand how these work.

I don't remember how it works. May I'm confused.

"Shorted" is slang for two electrical points making contact that shouldn't. For example if you had a dual filiment bulb one filiment could break and one end of that broken filiment could touch the non-broken filiment there fore being "shorted".

All I know is when one side starts blinking really fast it's usally a bulb.

I'd have to see the trick because like you I remember it takes 5 time constants to reach about 99 percent of the total source voltage in an RC circuit and having a bulb go out and loosing your R making the thing blink really fast doesn't make sense. The circuit just shouldn't charge.

...must've been a weird connection. It's back to normal now.

I went to replace the bulb and then realized I had replaced it a few weeks ago when it burned out. So, I removed it and re-installed it and tested it... Works fine now.

I figured it would either work or not work... Didn't realize that it could work but incorrectly if installed not quite right...

You learn something new everyday!
