Default Full Euro spec tail light conversion. Phase 1: Corners.

All but one of my tail lights were cracked, so this begins the full Euro taillight conversion of my car. I ordered them from a contact in the UK off of an A6. Here are the differences between the US and Euro versions of the lights.

Turn signal lenses appear pink or light red when not lit:

The turn signal section of the light doesn't come on with the headlights:

The turn signals light up amber:

I'll take some more pictures of everything when I finish next week. Let me know what you think!

Default Well... they're still better than the ones that look orange when they're off too.

I was unsure if I'd like them at first but figured I'd try them out. I think they look great now. They create a nice balance with the amber fronts when the blinkers are on. That's where I stand on them for now...

Default This reminds me of a project I have been meaning to do...

It is a toggle to switch the rear running lights between the "euro" mode you show and the "US" setup with the addition of a low filament in the left rear fog and a new bulb in the right rear fog. (Two filaments to six).

Default Also sounds similar to another project I want to do...

Brake light toggle, 12 filaments to ZERO! For stealth/accident mode, you choose.

Default Hmm... cost/benefit ratio there seems a bit iffy.

Probably be a good idea to have a bright red LED in the cabin indicating your brake lights are disabled.

Default Yeah it will probably never happen...

There aren't a lot of times where I say to my self, wow I really wish the people behind me didn't know I was up here... It would just be a novelty!

I would maybe make the e-brake warning light come on or something if I did it though. The switch would also reset it self when the car is turned off so you don't forget about it. I experimented with pulling the brake light fuse once; but you can't engage the automatic transmission if it's out. With a manual car it wouldn't be hard at all to wire a relay up to that fuse though.

It's probably just a really unsafe idea no matter how much thought I put into it, hahaha.

Default I wired up extra running lights in my Passat before

The uppermost section of the taillight served as both the running light and brake light, but there's an empty section at the bottom used for the rear fog in Europe. So I moved the running lights to the bottom and kept the upper section for the brake lights. I thought it provided much more contrast between brake and no brake. Best part was that the mod only involved moving one wire in the harness. Plus the turn signals were red off and amber on by design, which is why I like Brant's mod.
