Default Current red tail lights are DANGEROUS!!!!

Take one common example - 2 lane road and you are stopped, with brake applied and left turn signal, waiting for an opening in the on-coming traffic to turn. Meanwhile the line of cars behind you are skirting by on the road shoulder to your right.

I always wondered why cars would come flying up behind me and make a quick move around. Some would honk. It was as if I didn't have my signal on. So on numerous occassions I would get out and check to see if the blinker actually worked.
But then, when driving behind the Audi with my wife driving, I saw why. The red blinkers barely stand out next to the red tail light, especially when the brakes are applied. Not having amber signal lights was a stupid move by Audi. Yes the full red tail light bar looks good, but it won't once I get rear-ended.

Default As of yesterday my 'current' rear turn signals are amber...

I never had a problem with the all reds myself. I just thought I would switch it up for a change.

My specific tail light assembly is from the UK. It's all red, but the turn signals are a lighter red to allow the amber overlay in front of the turn signals bulb to shine through as seen in my pictures.

My 94 has a distinct seperation between brake light and blinker. I've had no problems.

Default Those in the second pic are exactly the ones I got w/ a red plastic section. Only difference...

I paid around $80 + shipping. Sorry Ed!

Every set of this type I've seen has a metal center section to match to your paint...Are they made by Hella?

I've seen the lights alone for pretty cheap in a few auctions, but didn't bid because I don't think I could find the center section by itself.

Default Have you looked if the US licence plate lights bolt right up to the center section?

I was going to look at them today but I forgot.

Default You've seen them in metal before? You sure it isn't just plastic?

Mines plastic and paint matched, just not for my car.

Default Never in person...For some reason I thought they were metal.

Maybe because they are the only painted ones...So they're plastic?

On the Euro version the U.S. plate just covers the holes, I will have to make brackets...

It's made by Audi and it's plastic. I think the U.S. one for the Avant is plastic too. Ha!
