headlight relay

headlight relay
Can anyone tell me if the "illumination selector switch" relay in the under hood relay box is responsible for low & high beam in addition to running lights. I poped the cover off it and it functions (moves) when I put running lights on but does nothing when the switch is moved into headlight position, but it doesn't look like it should anyway. I currently have no low, high or fog lights. If I hold the selector stalk in the highs come on but will ont stay on in the 'high' position. I suspect I need to replace the stalk assy. but if this relay does control the headlights I might try that first since it is so easy to do.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Are you talking about the big "double" relay?
The one that's called a "bulb check" relay?
You're probably going to find that your ignition switch is bad.....just like they all are.
Remember that headlight (and other functions) are killed when the ignition switch is in the "cranking the starter" mode. Headlights are also killed when the ignition is "off."
So, I'd spend the $30 and the 15min and pop a new ignition switch in her.

Re: Are you talking about the big "double" relay?
I tried the ign. switch already. No help. ( I am real good at replacing this thing now) The relay is a 1 inch cube in position 8 labeled "illumination selector switch".
I guess I'll try it, then try the switch, unless anyone has a better idea?
