Default heater cores all aluminum?

I have not seen any thermoplastic variations.
the AKG,Febi and Behr all seem to be solid aluminum.
Anybody know the exact part # to double check?

The partstrain also has Febi and AKG for around the 40-45 marker but autohaus beats them by a few plus free shipping if you can toss in another 10 bucks (oil filter.

Thanks.

Default Like the radiators, aluminum core with plastic tanks...

Make sure you investigate what size your fittings are on your existing core. There are 2 sizes. Something like 18 or 19mm and then something around 15mm. The smaller size is the one that most of these vendors are supplying. If you need the larger diameter, you'll likely be sourcing it from the dealer for $159ish.

Default the AKG (oem)

*Aluminum* W/18.5mm Inlet and Outlet Pipes. **275x127x33mm**. Aluminum Core

not sure if that is correct but it seems like it

htt p://www2.partstrain.com/store/?N=9604+1574+4294965605&Ntt=Heater%20Core</a

Default The problem becomes that they list the 18.5mm, but are selling only the other one.

I ran into this when buying mine. They kept showing up as the version with smaller fittings and so I finally bought from the dealer.

Default false advertising is bad news

question is, why the different sizes? Should there not be one standard size from the factory for 95-97 A6's?
I know Audi likes to make things confusing sometimes but it should not with this type of item.

Default It might be an "early vs. late" thing. My car is a '95.

Possibly the '96 and later used the smaller hoses.

These online parts places are just buying boat loads of parts and they lack the knowledge and ability to really know what goes with what, or what they have. All they subscribe to is a big search engine and then their parts come from warehouses all over the USA.

Take for example www.gprparts.com. They are located here in my city. Nothing more than a big garage with a guy answering phones and a couple guys taking parts out of UPS boxes and putting them in smaller boxes and sending them out to the customer who's ordered online. GPR is now out of business.

Same thing happened when I ordered a cylinder head gasket set from autohaus.com. They listed one set fitting up to a VIN and another set fitting from that VIN. I picked the set that matched my car, and it came with the wrong (later style) valve cover gaskets. So there I was at the end of the day Friday, ready to put the VC's back on and start the car and guess what....wrong gaskets and I'd ruined the old ones taking them off. Or the fact that they list the valley pan gasket as a valve cover gasket, so when I couldn't find it, I had to order just it from an Audi dealer 200mi away...and then I finally found it when I was looking at what the hell went wrong with the valve cover gaskets in the head sets.

So unless you've got someone who can go grab that heater core and measure it.......

Default that or use the exact PN

early builds might have an A on the end and later builds L or something to that effect.
About the only way to make sure you get the exact one is to check the # off of your old one or pull up ETKA and do your own research which looks like I might have to.
The mechanic who is doing the rack gets parts at a discount and he knows what is correct and what isn't so I could just let him source it for me.
I hate sending things back so I usually do the homework to get it correct the first time.

Default Good price there!...

From the Audi Parts List the part number is 443819030 for all 100/A6/S4/S6 92-98. Crossreference seems to be 443819031C. Later part I assume.

Genuine Audi part here: genuineaudiparts.com = $121. AKG and Febi cheaper here = $34.

Default thanks

443819030 works at gap but not the other number which is rather strange since AKG is OEM.

worldimpex has 3 choices....

MPEX SKU # 55241
HEATER CORE NEW #443819030
HEATER CORE NEW #443819030
Manufacturer: GENUINE PART
Price: $0.00 More info... Out Of Stock
IMPEX SKU # 9469
Heater Core Metal
Heater Core Metal
Manufacturer: GERMAN
Price: $52.65 More info... Buy Now
IMPEX SKU # 242480
Heater Core Aluminum Genuine
Heater Core Aluminum Genuine
Manufacturer: GENUINE PART
Price: $166.73 More info...

metal is 100 bucks less then aluminum probably because plain steel does not transfer heat anywhere near as well as aluminum.
Not sure about the first one, its out of stock right now but they say its new, whatever that means.

Certainly a good price granted they actually send you the 18.5mm and not some other size like autinado16 mentioned although going back to the 100 model they all state 18.5mm.

Default Doesn't matter what the part number is with the online sellers.

There info is sometimes incorrect and will do something like supercede to another number and so eventhough they list the # for your car, you wind up with the wrong heater core. Their response? "Well, that's what it shows fits your car."

As I said, BTDT.....twice.
