I have a '92 100s auto with a battery terminal problem. I tried to start the car yesterday and it was dead. I mean no power at all. I checked the battery and noticed that my seat cushion has been burning for some time. I have an Interstate battery with around 40k miles. It looks like the previous owner replaced the factory battery with an aftermarket battery. The terminals were covered with a rigged piece of plastic that was touching the seat cushion. I guess the cushion wires made contact or something of that nature. Now all that melted plastic has caused the battery cable to corode at the attachment with the terminal. I jiggled the cable a bit and now it starts and runs fine. The only problem is that my positive battery cable gets really hot. Is the high temperature normal? The battery seems fine.
Please tell me if there is a way to replace just part of the positive cable. The local dealer quoted me $600 just to replace the cable!!?@#$
Has anybody had this problem?
A Possible long term solution for an AUDI enthuziast on a budget?

Problem Solved,
As it turns out there was a short with the seat that was compounded by badly coroded cables. I got a new battery and I replaced all coroded cables with new monster cables. I also put some extra protection between the seat and the battery. A friend of mine gave me a piece of fire retardant insulation that easily changed its shape to fit under the seat. Car starts and runs great. I think that this solution will last for a while.
Thanks for the input!
