AUDI A6 AVANT 1996/7 C4
Hi,on the fresh air vents central and outer don't deliver any air at all. All ok then suddenly nothing, but also noticed that the climate control buttons sometimes don't work. have looked at problems but they say could be stepper motors and have then delved in where they are supposed to be located i.e. left as looking but alas they aint then behind the front console, looks a bit tricky to get to, then the valve outside behind the bulkhead, but surely that is temp control. help, somewhat bewildered and old would be obliged, thanks

Mike..could be the V70 central flap stepper motor..see the link: quattroworld.com Forums: C4 100/A6 (1992 - 1997)
If your climate control buttons are intermittent..that might be the problem too. The CC will start acting up when the control head give bad imputes.
I had my CC head rebuilt by Module Master with excellent results. Same problem with non-responsive buttons. With shipping about $135: https://www.ebay.com/itm/271720956915
If you can find someone local with a Ross-Tech VCDS and run the fault codes in the CC head..it will answer your questions. In that your buttons are non responsive..it will be hard to run the fault read out from the CC head as described in the first link.
