I fairly new here..
A few weeks ago I purchased a 93 100cs
and a 96 A6Q..
Today was oil change day,I did the A6 first
and got 2.5 quarts of oil out including what was in the filter( maybe three if I let the container drip over night. I also noticed it had a smaller filter than it was supposed to, looks like the filter for the 100 series...
next I did the 100, same amout of oil came out
so between the two cars I got about 5 quarts of oil......Where the hell is the rest of it?
also can the A6 filter be used on the 100? seems better to me to just by one filter instead of two different ones

Engine probably drank it..... I'm sorry to say this is not a joke, these older 12v's have a sweet tooth for oil. How long was it in there and didn't you check it often?

As I said both the cars are new to me
I'm not sure how long it was in there
but I'll know from now on since I change my oil every 2,500-3000k miles

my 97 12V has 100000 miles, but it doesn't drink any oil at all, maybe i'm just lucky. Put in 5 quarts, 3000 miles later, get just a little under 5 quarts out (the rest is in the filter).
as to your filter question, I don't think it matters. I've been using different filters over time, and they all had different sizes.

that would be about 2.5 quarts. I know this is a silly question, but I saw a guy do that once. Drained the trans and then said the engine oil showed full. It's do-able.

Don't get carried away! You don't need to change oil per the Grease Monkey Ad's. Every 5000 (too much brain work to track every 6000!) is plenty often enough if the engine has normal wear. What you need is to check the dipstick often until you get a feel for what happened. Was the oil last topped up 8,000 miles ago, are you burning it, or are you leaking it? Unfortunately, you didn't say where the oil was on the dipstick before you did the oil change. You also didn't state the mileage, but its probably over 80,000, yes?

the car has 137k on it now
when I first got it about a month or so ago oil was in the center of the dipstick at the car lot I got it from..last week it was still in the center between min and max, after I took down the cover under the carI did notice a leak towards the back of the engine but could not tell where it ws coming from. not enough to freak out though..
