My friend finally got me the anti-theft code for my 95 A6 from a buddy that works at the Audi dealer. I turned on the radio and SAFE appeared on the display. I pressed FM1 and FM2 and DX buttons simultaneously but i could not get 1000 to appear on the display --- where am i going wrong ? THANKS ~ John Buchtenkirch

Until the 1000 shows up.

Then use the station preset buttons, 1, 2, 3, 4 to toggle through the digits until the code is set.

In other words, station preset button number 1 controls the first number of the code. Station preset button number 2 controls the second number of the code, etc. Note that the first number of your code is probably "1" so you don't actually even have to touch the Station number 1 preset button at all. If the first number of your code is "0", then you do hit the Station number 1 preset button once to get a blank in that first position.

Once the code is entered, you press and hold the FM1 and AM buttons again until actual station numbers appear and then release. Then it'll work.

THANKS Todd, that got me to the required 1000 but the preset button #1 only turns the 1 in 1000 off & on, it doesn't reset it to new numbers. The funny thing is the second thru forth preset buttons work correctly and reset their corresponding numbers as they should. Again, what am i missing here ? ~ John Buchtenkirch

The first digit of all codes is either 0 or 1. The remaining 3 digits run 0-9 IIRC.
