Default How many of you guys have done any modifications to the sound in the C4?

I'm looking to replace my rear speakers, as they aren't producing the best sound quality (speakers rattle with moderate bass... I'm pretty sure they're blown).

Would I be able to replace the rear decks with aftermarket 6x9"s and still connect to the factory system and headunit?

Default Any aftermarket 6x9 will fit in place of the OEM Bose rear deck speakers.. BTDT

You just need to pull the plastic housings apart to get to the actual speakers. You'll also need to replace the factory Bose amp to power the new speakers, as they Bose speakers are rated 2(?) ohms, versus the typical 4 or 8. The factory signal going to the Bose amp can be used as a low-level input for any aftermarket amp.

Default The factory Bose is 2ohms, most aftermarket are 4ohms. I'm switching over completely to...

an aftermarket system like Erik has. The best way is to find some aftermarket 2ohm speakers, not easy. That said,I have 2 good used factory 5 1/4" door speakers if it interests you.

The only part left of the original Bose system is the head unit... which is not made by Bose.

Default Here is a pic of mine. I had a local install shop do it for me. Details inside...

I were doing it again today, I would do it myself. I have learned a lot about car stereos in the past few years. When I had the install done about 5 or so years ago I didn't know much about car stereos.

Currently I have a Pioneer HU, MB Quart front door speakers powered by a separate amp, the factory speakers are still in my rear doors, my installer removed the rear deck speakers to allow more base into the cabin, and a 12" sub powered by another external amp.

Here is a pic.

The only thing I don't like too much is how much space the sub takes up.
